  • Role Purpose We are looking for a qualified veterinary nurse or animal technician to fill the role of Technical Training Manager. The Technical Training Manager will play an important role in supporting laboratory animal care and welfare at the University of Oxford through providing expert anaesthesia support, and providing training and competency support to researchers and technicians conducting regulated procedures.

    Selection Criteria

    Essential

    • Institute of Animal Technology Level 3 or equivalent experience from working in animal research or veterinary practice (e.g. working as a Registered Veterinary Nurse).
    • Experience of monitoring anaesthesia and carrying out/assisting with surgical and other procedures within an animal research or veterinary practice environment.
    • Experience of providing peri and post-operative care within an animal research or veterinary practice environment.
    • Experience of teaching and training others in anaesthesia and minor procedures within an animal research or veterinary practice environment.
    • Strong communication and team work skills.
    • Ability to develop professional and effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including senior stakeholders.

    Desirable

    • Registered Veterinary Nurse.
    • Experience of working in an animal research environment.
    • Registered Animal Technologist (RAnTech) or similar professional registration.
    • Additional recognised qualification in anaesthesia.
    • Experience of supporting neurology or neurosurgery procedures.

The core purpose of the University of Oxford’s Biomedical Services (BMS) is to provide for the care and welfare of animals in experimental research and in doing so we support the scientific community across the University.

We are looking for a qualified veterinary nurse or animal technician to fill the role of Technical Training Manager. The Technical Training Manager will play an important role in supporting laboratory animal care and welfare at the University of Oxford through providing expert anaesthesia support, and providing training and competency support to researchers and technicians conducting regulated procedures.

The Technical Training Manager will work as part of a team including experienced animal technicians, Named Animal Care and Welfare Officers (NACWOs), Named Training and Competency Officers (NTCOs) and Named Veterinary Surgeons (NVS) to provide high-quality support for training and competency and for laboratory animal anaesthesia and peri and post-operative care.
