    Excellent communication skills, team working abilities, and an ability to organise work to meet deadlines are essential.

    Previous experience working within undergraduate or postgraduate academic settings, experience of examination processes and/or writing exam papers/questions, and/or a post graduate qualification in education are all desirable but not essential as training will be provided

  • Responsibilities + duties

    The primary function of the role is to assist the Academic Manager in the delivery and ongoing development of the PGCert programme, by:

    • Acting as chief internal examiner for the programme (assisting in the creation of balanced exam papers, editing exam questions, supporting both marking and moderating).
    • Sitting on both the Examination and Award board and the Academic Award board and attending relevant meetings.
    • Providing feedback and guidance on curriculum content and assessment processes.
    • Assisting in the selection of appropriately qualified teaching staff and carrying out their ongoing peer review via lesson observations and review of student feedback.
  • Candidate Suitability/Qualifications

    You must hold a veterinary degree and be registered as (or eligible to be) a Member of the RCVS (MRCVS). You must have clinical experience of working as an RCVS Specialist (or equivalent) in Ophthalmology within the UK.

With a membership of more than 10,000 veterinary surgeons, vet nurses and students, we work in the UK and internationally to promote excellence in small animal practice through education and science, by facilitating training, conducting research and developing policy. Each year we deliver numerous education courses, host the largest small animal Congress in Europe, and publish books, manuals, apps and magazines.

  • Flexibility and/or remote work options

    The post holder should expect to work approximately 100 hours across the year, with these hours mostly concentrated around the exam periods (February – Early April, May – July). You will have significant flexibility to choose where and how you work, with the full role able to be undertaken remotely (including meeting attendance and lesson observations). Limited evening/weekend work may be required during exam periods (depending on your availability during the week at these times), and there are 3 fixed date remote meetings during the year where attendance is expected.

Job Description

We are seeking a veterinary practitioner to act as Programme Coordinator on an independent consultancy basis, for our Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) programme in Small Animal Ophthalmology.

We have significant support available within the team, so applications are welcomed from individuals who have relevant clinical experience but limited experience in education. This would be an ideal role for someone wishing to gain experience of veterinary education and can be undertaken alongside a clinical role.
