Job Description

Would you like to work in a successful, independent 1st opinion practice that serves its local community whilst supporting Cheltenham Animal Shelter? Our lovely husband and wife vet team are moving back home to Ireland leaving us with 2 positions to fill, one of which is for our Clinical Team Leader.

Could we be your perfect match? We are a unique and special practice located in Cheltenham. On offer is a salary of up to 75k + up to 5k bonus, (and 5k relocation package if not local).

Fantastic hours over 4 days – vets start at 9am, last appointment is 6pm (with 6:15pm reserved in case of emergency). You will also benefit from x1 4pm finish per week. No OOH and currently 1 in 12 Saturdays.

Our aim is to provide excellent and affordable 1st opinion vet care in a dynamic and friendly environment with a comfortable rota that allows plenty of time off.

Excellent modern equipment – all the things you’d expect including DR X-ray, separate dental DR X-ray, top notch ultrasound, multi parameter machines, in house lab, 4 consulting rooms, separate theatre/imaging/dental and separate dog/cat/rabbit accommodation, bair hugger.

We have a team of 7 vets, with 5 vets working every day. Our appointments are 15 minutes and typically our vets consult 9-12:30pm and 2-4pm. Our operating vets share out the ops and then consult 4-6:15pm. We also see animals within the Shelter from 12:30-1pm. We have 7 RVN’s and 2 student nurses, patient care is excellent and we’re supported by a fantastic reception team, and a very popular practice manager. A good lunch break is always expected.

We are in the heart of Cheltenham Animal Shelter, a large and diverse site which includes rehoming, boarding, day care, groomers, vet practice, fundraising and a charity shop. As well as free appointments for Shelter animals, we enable them to receive cost price medicines and we share our profits with the shelter – we are vital to the charity – after legacies, we are the next biggest income stream.

We are also a lifeline to the local community. With many local practices charging more and more, we always aim to be affordable and most of our ops are half the price of the local corporate practice whilst maintaining clinical excellence. We’re about to achieve GP Practice Standards after a really positive recent inspection.

Just check out some of our prices, which also make it so much more pleasant to work here – 15 minute consult = £35, follow ups £30, Bloods ranging from £65 (preGA chem10/haem) to £125 (chem18/haem/lytes) and £98 for chem10/haem/T4. In house ear cytology £5, External swabs £80, FNA Idexx cytology £125.

In the last 10 years we have grown 500%, all by word of mouth – new clients come to us every day. No advertising, no Facebook. We can only see us getting bigger and busier so plans have been drawn up to develop the site further.  Our 2020 graduate has thrived within our supportive team and we have a 2023 new grad as well as several more experienced vets.

Our package includes RCVS, BSAVA, VDS, and cost price (not just a discount) treatment for your own pets and 5 weeks holiday, as well as bank holidays.

We also believe in the collective – we share a bonus across the whole team if the practice does well (last year this was £900 each for most full time staff, some conditions do apply), although this position will qualify for a separate annual bonus of up to 5k (paid quarterly) if the practice continues to grow.

Hopefully you can be tempted to get in touch. We exist to help pets and people, not shareholders! Happy staff, happy owners, and a happy Shelter – that’s our aim.
