    Organisational background

Animal Doctors International was founded in 2015 by Dr. Will Thomas MRCVS.

The first hospital was located in Vientiane, Laos.

Over the years the organisation has grown to include 3 more hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, Vietnam.

We are constantly striving to be an organisation of firsts in Vietnam.

    • The first hospital with separate cat and dog waiting area, consult rooms and kennels.
    • The first hospital to offer stem cell treatment.
    • The first hospital to offer CT & MRI.

We have an entire floor dedicated to training. We have regular client and staff meetings. Education is the key to improving animal welfare in Asia.

  • What makes your organization a great place to work?

Our constant drive to offer the best care, not just to pets but to the owners too.

Our beautifully designed hospitals – comfortable, clean and functional.

The cultural mix of so many different nationalities working together and bringing their own quirks and humour to every situation.

“My journey with Animal Doctors International started with a phone call from Dr Tara during my travels through South East Asia. Shortly after I met members of the team and participated in their desexing project in Laos, which sparked my interest to work in this unexpected new environment.
After a while of working in Laos, I relocated to work in their new clinic in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Apart from the daily tasks and challenges as a (newly graduated) vet, I also saw myself confronted with the language barrier and cultural differences. Being a sole charge veterinarian for sure tested my abilities in many ways and created a certain performance pressure, however I never truly felt alone, thanks to a supportive team of international vets within ADI just a phone call or message away.

All of this forced me to work more creatively and independently, and helped me gain a better understanding of people and myself. I strongly believe it was a great opportunity for steep professional as well as personal development and growth that I wouldn’t have gone through in a regular western working environment. On top of all that, I got to live, experience and explore this beautiful country during my time off! Living and working abroad was one of the best decisions for me and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

I left ADI as a veterinarian after 2 years to pursue options outside of veterinary care but remained in my new home.”

  • Describe an ideal employee at your organization

Someone who likes the unexpected, and gets bored with the 9-5 routine.

Someone with a naturally curious mind and a desire to immerse themselves in new cultures and situations.

Someone with a wonderful sense of humour who takes the work seriously but has a good damn laugh about it all at the end of the day.
